Palo Alto High School
Spectacular performances all around for the Paly Girls Varsity Soccer team as they defeated the previously undefeated and arch-rival Mtn. View Spartans by a final of 2-0. The match began with both teams alternating possession with neither gaining the upper hand. As halftime approached, senior Lauola Amanoni made a fabulous run all the way from the back line, about 50 yards to near the top of the box, where she unleashed a perfectly placed shot just over the outreached hands of the keeper for a goal. Within two minutes, Paly had doubled the advantage when Chloe Japic gathered a pass from fellow freshman Sofie Vogel and rocketed a goal into the net. Mountain View gamely tried to get back into the game in the second half, but the Paly defense was more than up to the task. Led by Amanoni, Talia Malchin, Ally Scheve, Mara Zenger and Reilly Filter, the Vikes stifled every Mtn. View challenge. Goalkeeper Clara Luehrs had a terrific afternoon as she gathered shot after shot, turning back the frustrated opponent.
